Tanu Shree Singh is an author who began her journey writing blogs on parenting which rose out of her academic training as a Positive Psychologist and her own experiences as a parent. These blogs went on to be published by Duckbill Books, in the form of her first book, Keep Calm and Mommy On. It offers practical wisdom in a relatable voice, and drew praise for its authenticity in tackling the challenges of modern parenting. It continues to feature as one of the most useful books on parenting.
Her picture book Darkless was published by Puffin, an Imprint of Penguin Random House India. In the US, it was brought out by Magination Press as Ani’s Light. The book has garnered acclaim as a transformative tale for young readers and has earned a spot as one of Bank Street’s 2021 Best Children’s Books of the Year. Kirkus Reviews called it, ‘A hopeful, sadly necessary resource for children coping with a caregiver under medical treatment,’ highlighting Singh’s ability to weave complex emotions into a captivating narrative. Darkless also received recognition as a runner-up in the Publishing Next Industry Awards in 2020.
Tanu Shree’s other notable works include Mummy’s Glasses, published by Pratham Books, DK Indian Icons : CV Raman ( An illustrated story of a life) and her latest, The Letter to Lahore, published by Duckbill Books, an imprint of Penguin Random House India. This is a part of the series Songs of Freedom which looks at India’s struggle for Independence through the lives and experiences of children of those times. She has also contributed to the anthologies I’d Rather Read and Flipped.
Tanu Shree’s writing extends to leading dailies, where she addresses crucial parenting issues. Her podcast, “Difficult Conversations” with the Indian Express, spanned two successful seasons. Passionate about promoting reading for leisure, she runs two online communities for readers – one for adults and one dedicated to Children’s Literature. Tanu Shree has also set up 13 libraries in schools across Himachal Pradesh, along with two independent libraries that are open to all.
